I was 6 yrs old when Thriller came out. It was my first exposure to Michael. My mom put the cassette in the deck, hit play and handed me the case. I stared at Michael and fell in love with him and the music I was hearing....to this day, the intro to Beat It sends me back in time to our living room like no other piece of music can. It's weird....like it's more than a memory....I'm THERE again. The experience of hearing Thriller and everything that followed completely changed my life, shaped my childhood, started an obsession with Michael, got me into dancing and began a lifelong love of music in general. And the videos - every time he would come on TV..... I'd lose my mind! Billie Jean on TV....don't even THINK about talking to me! lol. To have lived through "Michael Mania" of the early 80s was something else....it was a magical time. That's where it all began for me.

I remember getting my Thriller Album from my parents and just being fixated on the Tiger. Not so much Michael, imagine that, but when I would hear Billie Jean the dancer in me immerged. After seeing his videos on MTV over and over and over of Billie Jean I was, hearting Michael all over my trapper keepers and everything at school. Had buttons, stickers, posters, clothes. It was insane for sure..hehe

Healtheworld
OF COURSE YOU DO! Just because you weren't a fan before has nothing to do with it. There are millions of people that became Elvis fans after he died. A fan is a fan. Simple. WELCOME TO THE WONDERFUL FANDOM BB!

You're very very welcome. Just because you came onboard after his passing does NOT reflect on being a fan or not. Just think of how many people are going to become fans all over the world in the next decade! EXCITING!

If you love Michael enough to be talking about him here on an MJ forum, then I think that qualifies as a "real fan". Seriously though, some people (not here!) are so ridiculous asserting that you're not a true fan if you haven't been die hard you're entire life. If you were, that's great - and I understand that there is a certain pride in knowing that you were hardcore for Mike every single day, for sure! But I stared to love Michael 27 years ago and while I still adore (read: obsess over) him to this day there were stages in my life when I didn't listen to him as much cause I was exploring other types of music and artists... there were entire albums that I didn't run out and buy upon release (History....took a few yrs to find that one!).. Invincible...only discovered it this summer. Only in the last few months have I become fully immersed in the entire J5 catalog and wow...what a treat it's been to discover all that AMAZING music all these years later. Does any of that make me less of a fan? No way. Michael's family of fans is only going to grow from here on out - and as MJWC said, that's EXCITING! There are people being born today who will grow up to be HUGE fans of Michael, The Beatles, Motown, old blues music, jazz greats of decades past..... Music is art - moments frozen in time that will always be there for people to enjoy - no matter what stage of the game you find it. Period.

I was 6 years old, when Michael became the world´s one and only true SUPERSTAR, with his album THRILLER! But I wasn´t a Fan in this time! Don´t know why!!! My older sisters were Fans and listened to his music every day!
I became a very huge Michael Jackson-Fan in 1987, I was 10 years old. Michael came back with his new album "BAD"!!! I fell in Love with Michael Jackson. It was so wonderful! He was so cool and young and beautiful! I was amazed by his looks, his videoclips, his songs, how he sang, how he danced and everything! I bought his albums "Off the Wall" and "Thriller" and also albums from the Jackson 5! I couldn´t get enough of him! I bought all of his next albums as soon as they had appeared ("Dangerous","History","Invincible")
I`ve always believed in Michael Jackson!
Michael Jackson is the BEST ARTIST OF ALL TIMES AND EVER! MJ was special, right from the beginning! MJ was born to be the BEST! MJ is THE BEST!
I´m so proud to be his Fan! I will forever Love Michael Jackson, with all of my heart! Thank you Michael!!!

Hello Guys, My name is Irina an I am from Germany. I love to read your personal stories about how you got to be a fan/admirer of Michael. My way to Michael was a long time ago. Basically I grew up always knowing who this amazing person is, but unfortunately never really took time to get to know him better beyond his music. My brothers are 12 and 15 years older and were listining to MJs music. Thats how I got in touch with it. After his death something literally awoke in me and I desperately needed to know who is the man behind this beautiful music/lyrics. I was also participating in the World Cry Day here in Leipzig, Germany. This Event still gives me goosebumbs when I think of it. (I am the one on the right with the hat, holding the banner) I hope to find some people to talk to and improve my English because I will start working in Orlando, FL next year in March Well, I wish you a nice day
